Museum Label Project

Milli Fitzgerald
Title: Light Support

Size: 34 B

Material: 3-Dimensional Projection

Date: 2014

This is a typical brassiere worn by most women since the late 19th century. What makes this brassiere or bra special is that it is actually hologram. This bra is not physically real, but is actually a projection of a bra made to give a realistic illusion.

Globe, 6”x 3”, Artist Unknown
The whiteness of the piece allows for a pleasing aesthetic to come through and show off the adjoining art piece. Along with its hard lines and obvious disregard of its surroundings, the piece itself serves a purpose of only being an object to look at. The art piece shows off a great advance in lethargy of the 21st century artist and curator with the dark smudges as well as the fingerprints, showing who has handled the piece throughout time instead of the fresh, new look it should always hold.

("Collaborative Piece")

The plywood cube was a component of an installation I had in the hallway near the gallery.  After the installation had been partially removed but before I had a chance to take the cube home, graphic design students had set up their projects in the hallway, and someone had mistaken my cube for a pedestal.

For this project, I simply created a new label and placed it above the unknown artist's display, treating it as if it had been an intentionally collaborative installation.

The following day my new label had been removed, and I relocated the non-cube components to the floor and took my cube home.
