Casting Assignment *late comer* Ryan Kedrowski-Souba

 "Crappy Meal"
Ryan Kedrowski-Souba
2014

My work deals with facade and artifice in American culture.  Pictured above is a plaster casted iconic piece of Americana, the infamous "Happy Meal" from McDonald's.  I don't want to give too much away but essentially, before every great empire falls, it collapses from the erosion within as they become a slave to their own decadence.  Most people in our culture became familiar with this meal to varying degrees in their childhood and some of us are even comforted by the memory of it in an abstract way.  However, much like the picture used on their menu... the actual product comes up short in virtually every conceivable way.
"Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf,
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day
Nothing gold can stay..."
-Robert Frost

Here is a video of a McDonald's hamburger that has sat dormant for 14 years with little-to-no decomposition: http://newsfeed.time.com/2013/04/25/mcdonalds-burger-looks-the-same-14-years-later/
