Why do I need a Permit? #1
Concrete, Soil, Grass
2014
I sought to explore the ideas of property, space and artificiality with this piece. I have been examining the relationship between the need for habitat and the desire to streamline and cheapen every aspect of its production. In this piece I wanted to explore the idea of creating land that was theoretically could be suitable for building despite the scale to parody the extents of the builder to alter standards in their favor. Along with my complementing sculpture it explores and intends to explore the ideas of ready made and prefabricated home and land ownership as an indicator of individualism and success. By adjusting the scale to the one I've used I hope to both lend the object as a piece to facilitate self examination and become enough of an anchor in space to force the viewer to vacate the sculptural presence. By doing so I believe it authenticates the space enclosed within the structure. I hope to extend this project indefinitely and merge it with my typical body of work.
I love the casted structure on top of the grassy dangling pedestal on the bottom. It creates it's own little world.
